Chet Sao Noi Waterfall National Park

About Chet Sao Noi

Chet Sao Noi Waterfall National Park is one of the most visited national parks in the country among Thai visitors. It is less known to foreign tourists, many of whom instead head to the nearby Khao Yai National Park.

The park is located between Saraburi Province and Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The Muak Lek River, which flows through the waterfalls, forms the natural border between the two provinces in the waterfall area. Crossing one of the bridges from the east side, or even swimming across the river, takes you into Nakhon Ratchasima Province.

The park is around 160 km from Bangkok, 50 km from Saraburi, and 40 km from Pak Chong.

Chet Sao Noi Waterfall

Chet Sao Noi Waterfall is a 7 tiered waterfall on Muak Lek River in a very short walking distance from the visitor center area of the park. Chet Sao Noi means seven little girls, referring to the number of tiers the waterfall has, though there is also a story about 7 sisters that drowned in one of the ponds.

The main wide tier of the falls

The falls at each tier is no more than a few meters tall, at most 4 meters, but quite wide and streaming down over the smooth rocky edges of many curvy emerald ponds, creating a magical view. All tiers are accessible by a nearly 2 km long circular trail following the river bank on both sides of the river.

There are a number of spots relatively shallow and not much of a stream where visitors are allowed to swim. Saying this, some spots with strong underwater currents are strictly off limits for swimming after a few drowning incidents happened in the past. Visitors are advised to check the signs for appropriate spots for swimming. During the most rainy periods of the rainy seasons the water stream gets so strong that swimming will be prohibited, the water also gets a bit muddy.

The river banks are full of banyan trees with impressive tangling roots along the trails and down to the water.
