Private Tour | Doi Inthanon National Park | private tour

Our tours are private, meaning no others will share the transfer or the guide with you.

Also known as "The Roof of Thailand", Doi Inthanon is the highest point in Thailand at 2,565 meters above sea level. The national park is one of the best in northern Thailand, home to many attractions and a popular destination for birders. The park has a great diversity of forest types throughout different altitudes, at the higher altitudes the forests are humid all year round. The park entrance is about 70 km southwest of Chiang Mai.

What?

A day-tour in Doi Inthanon National Park with an English speaking guide includes hiking, visiting the highest point in Thailand, Two Chedis, waterfalls and Hmong hill tribe market. The transfer will be with a SUV or minivan, both options spacious and comfortable and with a/c, we use only relatively new cars.

Doi Inthanon offers two official trails, one of which is included in this tour. Each trail takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to complete, with one being closed during the rainy season. Additionally, there is a shorter trail near the summit, less than a kilometer long, for those seeking a quicker hike.

Kew Mae Pan Trail
Kew Mae Pan Trail
Ang Kha Luang Nature Trail is through a mossy forest habitat, worth to see

Pan was great. He went at our speed, patient, answered our questions and was a great person to be around as our guide. Everything was organized and taken care of. I would recommend bringing cash to tip and for any additional purchases. A noteworthy excursion!

Hello,

Since you asked for my opinion, I will be completely honest with you. We felt that this day of visiting lacked authenticity.

Let me explain: first of all, the hike did not really feel like one to us. It was very short and took place among many other groups. I was expecting something more immersive and more physically engaging, especially when the word “trail” is used. I had imagined a more demanding walk, more connected to nature.

Regarding the visits to the village and the market, we mainly had the impression that we were being taken to places focused on selling products, rather than experiencing a genuine cultural encounter or discovery.

In hindsight, I probably should have gathered more detailed information before choosing this day, as it did not match what I had imagined or expected.

Best regards

Olivier

Hi Olivier,

Thanks for taking the time to share your honest feedback. I’m sorry to hear the tour didn’t quite meet your expectations.

As you mentioned yourself, this experience may have benefited from checking a bit more detail beforehand. The itinerary on our website outlines exactly what the tour includes, the stops involved, and the specific trail that’s walked. It isn’t designed as a hiking-focused tour, but rather a mainstream day tour that combines (depending who you ask and fitness/health level) light/moderata/challenging walking with sightseeing and cultural stops.

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter which company you book this through, there aren’t any longer or more demanding official trails available. For most of our guests, the trails included works well.

Regarding the village and market stop, these are clearly listed in the itinerary as well. Many guests enjoy visiting Mae Klang Luang village, especially for the locally grown coffee, which is why our guides often include it. That said, we understand this type of stop won’t appeal to everyone.

The scenery around the village can indeed feel a bit plain during the dry season, but during the rainy season it’s usually quite spectacular with lush green rice fields on the hillsides.

After many years of running this tour, we’ve learned that it’s simply not possible to make everyone happy. What works perfectly for some guests may not be what others are looking for. Still, we really do appreciate you sharing your perspective.

Awesome park, very well maintained. A little disappointed we didn't get to do the 2 hour nature hike. Our guide got us there mid afternoon. It was way to hot to go.

It has been an extremely enjoyable tour with a very friendly and knowledgeable tour guide Lucky. We have received a lot of valuable information and insights thanks to many details shared by Lucky. All our wishes have been heard and hence we were able to adapt the tour to our personal interests and priorities. We had enough bottles of drinking water in the car. The included snacks and the lunch were delicious. The car was in good condition and the driver was driving savely. Everything was perfectly organized. So overall we are very happy with the tour and would book it again. A great experience we will not forget!

The tour was great, communication before was very good, pick-up was also perfect in time. We enjoyed all the activities particularely the hiking. One star less just because the guide was just ok (not really bad but also not very committed). We could see that during the hiking, the other groups got much more explanations than we got. Instead he was singing and whistling loud. Fortunately he left us after half an hour because he had lost his ticket. So he went back and met us at the endpoint of the hike in the coffee hut. Lunch was really great (but too much to eat :) ). Was a great day nontheless.

We attended this in a group of 4 friends, who are beginner hikers and requested for a beginner-friendly trail. The tour was amazing - hands-down, it is the highlight of our trip to Chiang Mai.

Our guide, Pun, is really nice and personable - he explained things to us along the way, recommended local snacks, checked in on us throughout the tour (especially on the nature trail) and answered all our questions. We did not get the name of our driver, but he was great too - the drive was super smooth throughout.

As first-timers to Chiang Mai, the tour itself covered locations that were tourist attractions, but they weren't overly crowded. For example, we didn't come across many people along the trail.

Overall, I would say it is a good mix of nature, local culture and the touristy vibe - super amazing, thank you!

Beautiful place, the elephants are well taken care of, it was a great visit and the employees were awesome. Many thanks to our guide Charly who was very helpful to explain everything

> Tour operator's response

I think you are mixing up our Doi Inthanon tour with a different one. We don't have a guide named Charly.

We also don't offer any tours to what we find as cruel and unethical places like elephant businesses. This includes the so called "elephant sanctuaries" which are old usual elephant businesses. We refuse to make profit on captive animals that are supposed to be free in wild.

The entire trip was amazing, our guide Pun was truly helpful in describing each place we visited, he answered all of our questions and the sites we visited were awesome. Thank you for making our visit truly memorable.

This trip was the absolute highlight of our stay in Chiang Mai! We had a driver and a guide - Mr Lucky - who organised the day brilliantly. Our pick-up was exactly on time and the sticky rice snacks they provided on the journey were delicious. Mr Lucky was able to give us information about natural history, wildlife, geography, Buddhism (to name a few) when appropriate whilst walking and viewing spectacular scenery - the waterfalls were our personal favourite. Lunch was great too, with the variety of dishes provided. We would thoroughly recommend this tour. Thank you for such a special day - and taking some excellent photos and videos for us :)

The guide and the driver were on time and very friendly and engaging. I went with my friend who was from Chiang Mai itself and they even helped my friend park her car as the hotel refused to provide parking for us while we were going for the trip. All the areas were covered on time and we had a wonderful trip. I had gone earlier last year with another guide and these guys showed us several places that were not covered last time. The car was very clean and in good condition and everything went very well. It was a very good trip to Doi Inthanon this time.
